1st GROSE VALE
SCOUT GROUP

Located in a semi-rural district of Western Sydney, between Kurrajong and Richmond. Our group hall is located in Community Centre Road, Grose Vale. Our building is the old Grose Vale School, which was vacated by the department in 1976, and has one classroom!

Membership is open to boys and girls, ages 8-15, from any area, and to any adult wishing to contribute to the aims of Scouting in the community. Feel free to arrange a no obligation visit to one of the section nights full of fun activities to see if it suits you.

When do we meet....

Cubs (8-10.5yrs) meet on Monday night, 7.00-8.30pm. They generally meet at the hall but often they will go on a bushwalk or visit a local venue, e.g., the Fire Station. A program of activities is available each term.

Scouts (10-15yrs) meet on Thursday night (7.00-9.00pm). They generally meet at the hall, with occasional Friday overnight activities to put into practice the skills they learn through the term.

Parents - varies each month...7pm at the hall. One parent from each family required to attend.
Weekend activities are also run for the benefit of youth members and parents.

What do our members get up to.....

A small selection of what we do....bushwalking, camping, canoeing, abseiling, canyoning, bush cooking, challenge activities, flying. gliding, mountain biking, learning navigation and use of GPS units, leadership and team skills, electronics and technology, web page design, understanding computers, drama, community service and more....much more.

Family Fun....
Scouting is where the whole family can have fun. We have regular family day outings and activities including canoeing, abseiling, a day at the beach, a trip to Jenolan Caves or a bushwalk along a secluded track. Come along. meet new friends and we are sure you will enjoy the experiences.

Scouting is a non profit organization run by volunteers. Grose Vale Scout Group is run by the parents for the benefit of their children. Parents meet monthly to discuss the direction of the group, leader training, finances and fundraising ideas, up and coming section activities and fun family activities and family outings at least once a term..

It is expected that all parents share the work in maintenance of the premises and equipment, assisting the leaders and the running of the group.. It's important to remember that 1st Grose Vale Scout Group involves the entire family and parents need to be involved in all aspects of running the group.

What does it cost for 12 months of fun-packed adventure???
When coming along on the first night, a parent will be required to complete an application form for their child. This is to activate their insurance cover. You are under no obligation to pay any fees for up to 4 weeks. By then, you and your child will have decided if scouting is for your family. Only at this stage are the following fees required....

Joining fee of $20, payable once only to the Scout Association.  Membership and insurance: $78 (April 1 to March 31), payable to the Scout Association. Pro-rata rates apply.

Group term fee (for terms 1, 2, 3 and 4) vary from $20 to $35, payable to 1st Grose Vale Scout Group. There are no weekly fees and may be some additional costs for weekend camps and qualification courses.
New members can join anytime throughout the year and Scout Association fees are adjusted pro-rata.

When all is considered, it is a small cost for the great benefits your child will receive from belonging to 1st Grose Vale Scout Group. The group has modern equipment and is continuing to update/replace the old. We welcome ex-scouts who may be interested in returning to scouting as a leader or adult helper with our group. Various roles are available from which to choose.

If we had leaders willing to start Joeys or Venturers, then these sections would also be re-established.
