At Navua
Reserve I canoed down the Grose River in a double canoe with my dad.
We were also with my scout leader, Jumbuck (Linda) and her husband,
Ropes (Peter) in their single canoes. We decided to paddle up the
Grose River because there was plenty of water depth after recent
heavy rains of over 200mm that we received in June.

 |
We
started out at ten thirty and it took us one hour and forty five
minutes to get to the second power lines where we went up a little
further and stopped on a little sandy beach and had lunch.

The
weather was cold and so was the water but the water was very clear.
Along the river I saw lots of interesting things. Coming up the river
I saw a really big eagle’s nest, lots of King Parrots and some
Wood Ducks. One of the wood ducks was a mother which looked like she
was sitting on a nest.

After
Lunch we started to paddle back down the river. We mostly floated
down the river because it was flowing out and we were able to enjoy
the scenery without paddling too hard. On the way back we saw more
King Parrots, Wood Ducks and a Sea Eagle that probably lived in the
nest we saw earlier. We also stopped under an overhanging rock.
|
| We got
back to shore at two o’clock after we had paddled a total of
five kilometres. It was very muddy and slippery where we pulled the
canoes out of the river but I didn’t slip over at all. |
 |
| I had a
great time out on the river and I would love to go out there again! |
